The government has decided to extend the ongoing lockdown till May 19. A minister told Kantipur that the cabinet meeting held at the PM's residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday decided to add lockdown by May 19.
The ongoing lockdown was coming to an end on May 7. The government has extended the lockout as the number of corona cases has increased recently and neighboring India has also extended the lockdown till May 17. Corona virus infection has been confirmed in 82 people in Nepal so far and 22 of them have recovered. When the lockdown began on March 26, only two people were infected in Nepal.
According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health, corona infection has been confirmed in 31 people in Province 1, 13 in Province 2, 7 in Bagmati, 2 in Gandaki, 24 in Province 5 and 5 in Far Western Province. In Karnali, no corona infection has been reported so far.
The government has decided to close the international border till May 30. A meeting of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday decided to close and tighten the border checkpoints till June 3 at a time when the number of corona cases is increasing in neighboring India.
Similarly, the government has extended the ban on international and national flights till May 30. Earlier, the ban was issued till May 20. The Council of Ministers has also decided to continue the lockdown till May 19.
Similarly, the government has urged the citizens to light lamps in the evening on the occasion of Buddha Jayanti tomorrow. "It is also the occasion of Buddha Jayanti. We have also requested to light the lamp to wish for the liberation from the epidemic of Corona," a minister told Kantipur.
